Shipping and Packaging Considerations
Shipping and exporting procedures are not the most glamorous part of any business, but they are crucial, from an operations standpoint, in ensuring your business continues to grow. Here at AW2 Logistics, we handle everything for you so we can deliver a positively remarkable experience. Here are some shipping and packaging considerations when you are determining the best way to share your product with the world.
Air or Water?
Humans have been traveling and moving goods over the water since long before we took to the sky; making ocean shipments a tried-and-true way to deliver products to consumers. While other institutional costs, like fuel, make air shipment much more expensive than ocean shipment, what you pay is directly proportional to how quickly your shipment reaches its target. Plan ahead to ensure your product reaches your customer in a timely manner.
It is also worth noting that the size of the equipment may limit your shipping options. Ocean containers come in standardized sizes, so if your product cannot fit into one, it would need to go breakbulk or flat rack. Keep the means of shipping in mind as you take the next step in reaching your business’ full potential.
We Work with You
AW2’s value-add services are available to both international and domestic clients. We complete packing lists, bills of lading, VGM documentation and additional wood certifications to make the shipping of your product as pain-free and seamless as possible. We offer container layouts and can also recommend freight forwarders and coordinate trucking if you do not already have providers in mind. For every step of the way, we work to find the right solution for you.
Shipping Quality and Accuracy Checks
When moving goods, it is imperative to give your product one final inspection before sending it on its way. This includes making sure wood is ISPM15 stamped for international shipment and that freight is properly secured for shipment to allow for air and/or ocean shipments. If you are moving goods using more than one method, ensure that your goods fit all shipping criteria for each leg of the journey.
Forms of Packaging
The most common forms of shipping and packaging you will find are wood boxes and pallets. However, requirements vary according to the type of product and where they are going. If your product requires extra care such as being temperature-controlled, consider the different types of packaging material. For example, styrofoam is an excellent insulator, which may make it a good or bad choice for your product.
Where and What We Ship
AW2 is proud to be able to export almost anything to anywhere in the world. With nearly 70 years of experience in the supply chain and logistics industry, our expertise prepares us to meet and exceed all your shipping needs.
There is always a risk of product damage from the regular wear-and-tear of loading and unloading products when shipping materials hundreds to thousands of miles. Even en-route, blustery bursts of air or choppy waves may disrupt cargo. AW2 has over 100 years of experience with our leads and packagers. We assess and determine the best packaging method to ensure safe shipment overseas. Your product is our responsibility, and we strive every day to minimize product disturbance. Our values of accountability, integrity, and innovation guide us in coming up with solutions to fit your needs.
There are many considerations you should be making when preparing to ship or export a crate. The most relevant ones include ISPM15 compliance, any size, and weight restrictions and how the equipment will move overseas. Being compliant with international and local requirements from the get-go minimizes any headaches later on. Keeping in mind how the equipment moves overseas also helps you make other decisions about the shipping process, including forms of packaging and how to pack to minimize shipping damage.
Your shipping and exporting needs are unique. It is our mission to give you the personalized attention your shipping requirements deserve. Many customers rely on packagers to instruct them on what is the best recommendation to move freight overseas, and we want to make sure we give you the best recommendation possible.
